This painting is being turned in to it's owner on Sunday. I will post the final version soon after. In the mean time here's a detail of the previous version.

Here's a closeup. The lady on the Fremch Horn, which is behind the tuba, is my patron, Chris Mele. This is her painting.

It's been over a week since my last entry. This painting is at a dangerous phase. Is it complete? Does it need just a little something? Will I screw it up?

March is underway and this painting is getting closer to so completion. I am so enjoying painting the people.

Over the past week I have worked on the portraits of the individual members of the band. There have also been some value adjustments.

This weekend I've focused a bit on pattern and texture. I've also begun to think more about value relationships.

Night has begun to fall on the painting and the development of foreground, middleground, and background is improving.

Brass Quintet stage 4

More color and drawing. There's a struggle here . Drawing wins. Color wins. Seldom the piece wins. But when it does, that's the thing.

I was getting a bit tight with my initial underdrawing. So I threw on some paint and made a few charcoal marks. I also made some scale corrections to the musicians.
